3 things for your calendar – KITL November 20, 2014

1.  Yes – we will be having a sale – November 28, 29, and 30 (Black Friday weekend).  Watch your email each morning to see what will specifically be on sale that one day.  Hint:  prepare your charity knitting and crochet and your unfortunate looking Christmas sweaters.2.  Knit Along — Starting January 1 we will be doing the Fox Paws pattern from Ravelry as a Knit Along.  We will hold our initial meeting on January 1 from 1-3 pm  for you to purchase the pattern, pick your yarns, get them wound, and maybe even start a row or two.  Our regular meetings will start the next day on Friday, January 2 from 1-3 pm and continue every Friday afternoon for two or three months ( Admittedly who knows how long this will take or how long you would like to make your scarf.)  We have ordered 20 colors of Cascade Heritage sock yarn (the perfect weight for this project) and they will arrive the first week of December.  We’ve put together several 5 color combinations that you might like, or you can make a combination on your own.  Wendy Harris will be leading us — she’s already looked at the pattern, read comments from other knitters,  and  is currently knitting a sample for us.  Skills required:  Knit, Purl, Increases, and Decreases.  Really – that’s all!

3.  Special Class:  Have you ever looked at a lovely skein of hand-dyed yarn and wondered what it would look like and if it would work well in a project? Have you ever used hand-dyed yarns in a project and wondered about the results you got? Saturday, January 31 from 3-6 pm Ana Clerc, from Yarn Carnival hand-dyed yarns will lead us in a class to answer these questions.  We will look at specific examples of yarns and projects and talk about all the factors that go into what we see in the final result. You will learn the do’s, maybe’s, and don’t’s of yarns and project combinations and the best and easiest tool to help you in your choices.

Registration is limited to 10 people and will start on Tuesday, December 2, 2014.  Call the shop and speak to Ruth.  Class fee of $40 is required at time of registration.

Materials: none, but if you want to do some swatches during the last part of class to try some examples, we will look at yarns ideal for that purpose. For swatching, bring or buy hand-dyed yarn and needles appropriate for that yarn. Please bring in your own projects out of hand-dyed yarn that are completed or are in progress to troubleshoot and analyze.
Prerequisite:  Just an interest in the subject matter.

We will be closed Wednesday, November 26, and Thursday, November 27, to enjoy family and food.  See you on the 28th.
